Straight Up

We've been doing a new bath time/bed routine around here lately, and I am a huge fan (I do have to credit my loving father for the suggestion- Thank you, Dad. I will forever heed your words of wisdom and sage advice. I'll never doubt you again).
Asher has sort of become a bath time aggressor, treating the tub as his personal indoor pool in which he can belly-flop and splash his way from end to end. This wasn't working out well with bathing him at the same time as Iris. So for the past week we have put an end to the shared bathtime. Asher goes first and Iris has solo play time. Then, while I put Ash to bed, Iris gets the tub to herself (Timm disapproves of this arrangement because that leaves Iris unattended while I am on another floor of the house with Asher for about 5 minutes. I'm thinking 4 1/2 years old is old enough to keep her face out of water for that amount of time. Let's all knock on wood for that one).
Iris loves this arrangement. Loves it. She gets to stay up later than Asher, she can take as long a bath as she wants, she gets me all to herself, and she can read whatever book she wants before bed. All without a pesky little brother hogging all the attention.
I love this arrangement because I get to spend some quality time with my little girl without my (precious, sweet, adorable, I-have-so-much-love-for-him-I-don't-know-where-to-put-it-all) pesky little son.
Tonight, at her request, we spent our "girl time" blow-drying and straightening Iris' hair after bath. I blame cousin Sara for this idea. Earlier today, I don't know how it came up, but we were talking about how when Sara was a little girl, her hair was very similar to Iris'. Short and curly.
"And now it isn't curly anymore," Iris stated.
"No, it's still curly, she just straightens it with an iron," I replied.
"Like the one you have?"
"Yep."
Ok, so maybe I am to blame for the idea. It's still Sara's fault...
Anyway, it was actually pretty fun, and Iris was very patient (which is totally unlike her when it comes to messing with her hair). And she loved it. I just hope she doesn't want to do it ever again- I much prefer the curls!
Of course I had to take pictures. But all the pictures are in front of my gross, child-grime printed mirror because Iris couldn't stop looking at her reflection. So ignore the mirror. The girl is cute. :)
