Just Today

So, today I got the set of cloth diapers that I ordered... 3 covers, 3 inserts, 3 extra liners- basically enough to get me through most of one day!  I am excited to try them, and if I like them, I'll get more.  For now we will be "part time cloth diaperers".  We made it through from 11am till bedtime and I've done laundry twice (the first poopy one, I didn't have any place to put it, so I just ran it down to the washer.  The second poopy one I decided to go ahead and launder so that we could have them all ready to go for tomorrow.  I'm sure there is a more efficient way to go about this, I just haven't figured that out yet)!  Naptime, the diaper leaked pretty bad.  Not sure if there is something I can do differently, or if maybe I will just stick to disposables for bedtimes.  Aside from the leaking, my only complaint was that it is pretty bulky (I mean, he's a pretty skinny kid, but these make his pants tight!) and all the pads and liners in there make the front stick out.  The back is fine since it has elastic holding it closed, but I can pretty much see straight down the front of it, which seems detrimental to absorbency...  We shall see.  They are super cute, though, and I hate to have to cover them up with clothes!  ;)
Oh, and I'm not going to lie, you have to be way more hands-on with the poo when you're dealing with cloth which totally sucks.  Maybe I'll discover a better technique down the line, but I basically had to scrape them out with toilet paper into the toilet before putting them in the washer (which I'm sure wouldn't be so foul if he had more "mature" poo).  So, yeah.  Cloth diapers: They get you with the cuteness and the eco-friendliness and the better-for-baby-ness and then Wham!  You are sucker-punched with poo, but you're out the $50+ you spent on them so you are bound and determined to use them.  Or maybe that's just me.
Luckily, I am not the squeamish type and while it stinks and all, I can take it.  Timm on the other hand....

Arg- baby is awake.  Back upstairs I go.

He is such an adorable little bubby :)

I took Iris to the library again today in a second attempt to get her her own library card- maybe it's silly for a 3 year old to have her own card, but she's way into it and it's free, so why the heck not?  It was a success (because I remembered to bring a piece of mail that has my name on it along with my current address. Because my license has my old address, and despite the fact that BOTH addresses are within Hamilton County limits, I had to verify that one of them was current.  Or lie and put the address that is on my license on the library paperwork.  But that would be too easy).  We got the card, and she wrote her own name on it:    "I     [indiscernible scribble]     I    [indiscernible scribble]".  She'll have this card till she's a teenager and she'll have to see her 3-year-old autograph taking up the whole line with 4 letters.  I think it's fantastic.  I'm sure she'll be mortified.  That's how it should be.  Anyway, the girl is pretty hilarious at the library.  She loves books and movies and every single one she saw, she wanted to check out and bring home.  She's so adorable.  I've got her signed up to do the summer reading program and win prizes for reading books.  She'll love it.  I just hope I remember to return her stuff and not get her all racked up with fines...
