I had read up on tips to save money on painting projects. I did my homework. And I applied what I learned. Since we are only painting two smallish areas around the windows in her enormous attic room, I figured we could get away with only buying paint samples rather than an entire quart (2 jars of sample color: $2.93 each vs one quart: $11). Also, to save costs, and time, with taping, I discovered this extraordinarily handy little paint tool:
As opposed to purchasing a roll (or two) of painters tape at $4 a pop, this little guy was about $2, and it's reusable. Also, I didn't have to waste my precious time fiddling with taping off around everything. I could get right down to business with the painting, saving me a lot of time and energy (and it is incredibly accurate- check out those lines in the photos)!
We were able to get almost completely done with both walls using only the 2 sample jars. I will have to go back tomorrow to get one more to get the job finished. But still I saved some money (minus having to make another trip to Home Depot).
Iris had a blast painting her room and she did a great job- she didn't drip or splatter a drop. Wish I could say the same for myself. After watching me "get out of the lines" she told me, "It's okay. I am better at this than you. I am a professional."
