Soul Food

Saturday, the entire Line was invited to go down the street and have dinner at a woman's house. I thought that woman must be completely insane. I honestly didn't know if I wanted to go... I am dirty and smelly. I didn't want to be crammed into someone's house with all 50+ other dirty, smelly campers. I wasn't sure about bringing Iris there. And I didn't feel like having to make small talk with an insane woman.

But as it turns out, I went. And I am seriously glad I did! That dinner is probably in my top 5 favorite experiences from the Line.

We tried to go in groups of about 20 or so, but really it was just a steady trickle of campers making their way across the street, 3 doors down from the mosque. We arrived at the doorstep of a gorgeous 100 year old estate.

I didn't catch the complete story, but it was my impression that the members of the PTA at Fairview put together this dinner for us. And the owners of this home aren't completely insane, they are just totally gracious and have the space to accommodate hosting a large dinner (and they have great taste- the interior was gorgeous with bold paint choices and striking art work). It was phenomenal. 5 different types of delicious, home made soups (many if not all of which were vegetarian), several types of salads, bread, drinks, and desserts. This meal was not only satisfying to the body, but satisfying to the soul as well. This was in part due to the very nature of a hearty warm soup on a cold windy day. But mostly it was the gesture that current Fairview parents were welcoming us in and the meal was a warm embrace.

Our hosts were the 2 people in the middle here (the man with the red shirt, and the woman in black next to him)
