From 70s to Snowfall

Thursday night was the coldest night of our wait in Line. We got to experience the first snowfall of the season standing outside around a campfire. It was actually kind of fun and exciting.

Our friend Chris made us pot roast for dinner, which was a warm and comforting way to start the night. There were 3 campfires lit all in a row and we had a few beers throughout the evening helping to take the edge off the cold. I kept my umbrella handy as the precipitation kept coming in random bursts as the night wore on. I’m not sure if it was snow or hail or both.

Finally we crawled into our tent. I slept with two pairs of socks on, with hand warmers between the layers, sweatpants, a t-shirt, long sleeved shirt, and the warmest sweater in the world, under two sleeping bags and one fleece blanket, snuggled up with my husband. I was cozy, warm and dry all night long.

We emerged in the morning and all the tents had a filmy layer of frost sparkling in the rising sunlight. It was a pretty cool sight. I really wanted to take a photo, but sadly, I was so distracted trying to prepare for the cold that I left my camera at home.

People find it strange that my husband and I are staying in Line together whenever we can. Most people are here alone. But if we didn’t spend time together in Line, we literally wouldn’t see each other at all. And we like each other. We have fun together. Why wouldn’t we want to share this experience together, if we are able to? Maybe I’m crazy, but being out here is an adventure. And it's an adventure I want to share with my husband. We are not only forging new bonds with the other parents around us, but strengthening our bond to one another by sharing these moments.

After getting to know some of the other parents here, I have come to realize how blessed we are to have so much support behind us helping to make this wait in Line happen. And how unusual and awesome it is because so many people in Line don't have a fraction of the support we have. Not only do we have the support of our family, but also our church family as well. Everyone rallied behind us to make this work out by making sure our kids are taken care of and that Timm and I are taken care of for as long as it takes. There is no other way to put it, we are so very blessed.
